Beginnings

Let me tell you a little bit about the birth of The Charm House. Years ago God planted the seed. He gave me the name and little did I know that in the way I was raising my children, He was planting the ideas. In raising our children, Reid and I always believed that we should encourage, motivate and inspire them. One way that I did this was through Scripture and quotes. I would type out Scripture and quotes, make them fancy and give it to them. Whitney was so into it that it even got to the point that she was using dry erase markers to write her verses on her mirror in her bathroom to memorize them. (Moms, don't freak out, it comes off with Windex.) After I saw the difference it was making in their lives, I started doing it for their classmates every chance I had. What better way to share God's word? I would make little treats with verses or quotes and slip them into their lockers. Eventually that lead to sending encouragement in the mail to friends and family! Encouraging others so much encouraged me! It is true~ what better way to make yourself feel good than making someone else feel good.

Well, the time came... Chase was in Virginia at college and Whitney was leaving to attend Auburn University in Alabama. Everyone around me was waiting for me to fall completely apart. My life was centered around my children and their friends, and now that part of life was over. During Whit's senior year, I made her a scrapbook full of pictures and quotes. I started realizing how much God had blessed Reid and me in the raising of our children. They were HIS children and HE was sharing them with us and HE was counting on us to raise them in HIS way - not ours - but HIS! I knew that God's name was written all over their hearts and only our prayers and thoughts could keep them safe while they were in college. However, during this same time God was watching out for me and preparing me for the day we had a empty nest. I had the greatest peace! At the time, I couldn't tell you why, but I knew that God was going to take care of me. I would have never imagined that at the age of 46 He was going to start a new phase of my life. Little by little, The Charm House took on its life. My peace and contentment was found in sharing God's word through this. I noticed that I was using "things" that I had collected over 15 years ago. God knew all of this back then and even before!

See, that is how I know through everything God has HIS plan. In our lowest of lows, HE will bring something great out of it. Whether we see it or not may be a matter of time, or it just may mean whether or not we want to open our eyes to watch out for what my family calls a "God Moment". God has been so good to me and I would not trade a day in my life for a day in someone else's life. As my Pastor, Chris, says, "God is good" and as God's people say, "All the time".

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. ~Hebrews 13:2
