5 Different Bird Nest Tutorials.....

Look at the birds of the air;
they do not sow or
reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?”
Matthew 6:25-26
Reid and I spent the day putting out bird feed and cleaning the feeders. I love to watch the birds from my sitting room window. Reid has lovingly put out over six feeders and Yes, we feed the squirrels with them!
With all that, I decided to put together a post on making Birds Nest!
I hope you enjoy and challenge yourself this spring in making one of these beauties!

First, I have to list my tutorial using vintage shredded paper and cupcake liner!http://thecharmhouse.blogspot.com/2009/03/lets-make-birdies-nest-secret-item.html

I am sharing two tutorials from Barb at Treasures from the Heart!

You can tell she really loves Birds Nest!http://treasuresfromtheheartgifts.blogspot.com/2009/03/mini-bird-nest-tutorial.html

Is this just the most precious Birds Nest you have seen?

I will be working on one of these for the wedding!

Recycled Ladies Pump into Sunday Go to Meeting Shoe...

This is my last post before I announce the
winner of my Giveaway on Monday morning!
So... if you have not put YOUR name in the pot
do so over the weekend dear chickadees!
Next week I will be sharing with you my adventure over the past week. I had to take a day trip to Auburn, Alabama to take Whit some formal dresses for a dance she had last night. Sob, Sob... Oh, how I miss all of the wonderful Homecoming, Prom and Debutante dances she went to in High School! I am just thankful that she is getting the opportunity to wear all the wonderful dresses again! Anyways, Anywho and back to what I was discussing before I so rudely interrupted myself with the sobbing.... I went to Auburn and I DO NOT PLAN a trip to Auburn, Alabama without going Junkin'..... Girlfriends... Going down Interstate 85 between Atlanta and Auburn you can find some of the best little antique and junkin' places in the world! And my favorite little strip is in Opelika, Alabama! But, I can't get carried away now or I will totally give away my post for next week! So Stop Yvette and go Post NO More on that....
I will share a project that I could not wait to do once I arrived home! I pondered on it all the way, trying to figure out exactly how I was going to manipulate all the pieces into part to make it what I wanted!
I started with a plain old black simple ladies pump and a old torn up Baptist Hymnal that I found at Salvation.... whooops, can't tell you the name of the store yet because that will blow my post. Anyways and Anywho it was a "store" where I made a very, very, very cheap purchase.

This is my completed project~

I call it my

Sunday Go to Meeting Shoes

I will be using this to hold my business cards at

Let's make the Birdie's Nest & The Secret Item....

Some of you got it right~ YOU are SO GOOD!!!
CUPCAKE LINER & SPRAY ADHESIVE
Cupcake Liner helps the nest to go back into shape after all the shredding is on.
Spray adhesive is the best thing that I could find to adhere
the shredding to the cupcake holder. Place cupcake liner upside down onto scrap plastic surface that you can throw away use. Spray with adhesive really well and start putting shredding onto to cover entire cupcake holder. Then pick up liner and start pressing shredding to liner to adhere. You may have to add more shredding if needed. Turn over and do the same. If you want a thicker nest, repeat steps.
Pressing shredding ( use any type of shredding that you wish) onto cupcake liner.
Place onto plastic and put Styrofoam ball or other small ball into middle.
Form shredded nest around ball. All adhesive should be covered so it should not stick to ball.
The cupcake liner helps the nest go back to a cupcake shape. Cupcake Shape!!! Or rather

MY BIRDIES NEST!!

At this point you can hot glue brown shredded paper into bottom for nesting.

Hints~ Add fibers to nesting for added interest!

Happy Nesting!!

Handmade Nest for Birdie~ Can you guess what I used?

photo by Chase Adams I want to challenge you a little today....

PROBLEM: Yesterday I needed a birdnest to fit a particular bowl. I could not find one in my house and I could not find an old one in the woods that I could get to.

SOLUTION: Make one.

YOUR CHALLENGE: I used two different papers on this nest~ a newspaper and a brown craft paper. I also used two other items~ One to bond everything and one as a base.

Can you guess these two items?

Tomorrow I will show you how I make the Birdies Nest!

Goodwill Re-do for $2.00 and a Little Birdie....

Little Birdie~ I purchased these cute little birdies at Hobby Lobby on sale for $1.50! Great Price! But I just didn't like the color~ No problem for me~ Just change it!

Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink and a cotton pad for the base. A little brown ink from an ink pad using a make up wedge to high light some edges and a charcoal pencil for fine details. To finish a coat of spray varnish! YEAH ~ A new little birdie to fly and perch onto one of my projects. Finished Birdie
Birdie birdie before my handiwork.....

Cheese Tray from Goodwill for $1.19! Great Buy!!!!
Apply Scrapbook Paper.......
Sand Edges of Tray and Paint Easter Eggs.....
To make speckles on Eggs, Use Toothbrush with brown paint and flick....To finish eggs I sprayed with Spray Varnish.
For me to get the paint finish that I wanted, I painted the tray four different colors of my choice and then sanded the tray. This made the tray look old and used. I then hit the edges with an ink pad to give it more of an antique look. To finish, I gave it a coat of Satin Varnish.
Bottom of Tray....
Tray with nest and eggs!!
Oh So Sweet!
My finished Goodwill Project!
How about this for about a $2.00 project??
I think Birdie wants to sit by it!

Re-do on a "She's 21 Now" Room....

With my daughter growing up so fast, but still in College at Auburn, her bedroom becomes that place of transformation for me. I have watched the High School cheerleader become the ZTA sorority leader and then the ZTA wants to turn into a beautiful young lady. The young lady who wants to start developing her own taste while her mother still commands the bedroom while she is away. The struggle of Mom wanting some of the child to remain while the daughter wants the childish ways to be behind her and the woman to delightfully bloom ahead! What a struggle. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing my daughter grow up. I have grown up to be just like my mother and I see her doing just the same! She has picked up so many of my traits and habits, many I wonder if I have forced upon her.... But the one characteristic that she did get from me that enables her to deny any forced habit.... STUBBORNNESS!
And I guess that is what makes Whitney, Whit!
Today I share with you her room or maybe I should say our room....The new sheets I ordered from Cath Kidston....
Thanks to the Farm Chicks for recommending them!
I will show you her bed made up together with the sheets next week!Who would have ever thought this would have looked good together??? PART of her bottle collection....
I started one when I was very young also... But I crawled under old houses to get mine!

Beautiful Blue Bottles... I love them!

I won't say much about this collection.....
Auburn University Plate (When Auburn wins a tree is covered with TP on Toomers Corner),
A frame that I made with a picture of Whit and a guy that never made it as a boyfriend,
Papa's hat, Angels, Pictures of friends
Lighting for her room and her grandmother's painting and a friend's painting.
Grouping from Pottery Barn with Whit's pictures in it
Whit's Brown Transferwear
Whit loves to antique, goodwill and thrift! She did get that from me! YEAH!!
I hope you enjoyed this post! It was a little different for me!

Goodwill, Recycling = Art

I love to make theses little bottles!
After going to Goodwill and recycling bottles from the kitchen, I have the perfect match! I tried Dawn's tutorial from The Feathered Nest on printing on fabric! It worked perfect and I am sure that I will be using many more times!
This is a really easy project, basically just gathering materials that YOU like and using the correct glues to glue them on!
Paper - Matte Medium
Heavy Jewelry - E6000
Fabri-Tac - Ribbon and Cloth
Hot Glue - Other
I used a rusting process on the lids, drilled holes in the top and wired them around the top.
And I use the E to sign my work for my Nickname......

Creating with Bottle Brush Trees....

Have you ever purchased a package of bottle brush trees and half of them be so messed up you wonder why you even purchased them?? Well... today I will tell you how to spruce up those little trees so they look like new! All it takes is a little hot water. You can just stand there and run the hot water over each one of them (which is actually better for each tree) or be lazy like me and stick all of them in the sink at one time and run hot water over them like crazy! This does take more of the color out of the tree! After you do this, just lay them out to dry on a towel. If the bottom comes off, just hot glue it back on or better yet make another project out of it! When they dry you have a bushy little bottle tree for a fantastic project like mine!

Recycled Weed Vase...

The front of my Weed Vase! See the beautiful vintage music surrounding the jar!The back of my jar with my signature "E" on it! The side of my weed vase with the rusted top!
Have you ever wondered what to do with your glass olive, caper and other beautiful tall jars?
You just couldn't bare throwing them away?
Well, here you are! Make yourself a beautiful weed vase. I got this idea from two of my fellow bloggers ~ The Feathered Nest and The Thrifty Decor Chick. Both had used bottles in different ways to decorate and with my husband and I collecting wood weed vases I thought this would fit in fine with our collection!
It was really easy, just lot of time drying! You start with a clean bottle and apply any paper that you want with your matte medium. Don't worry about getting it all over the bottle, the matte medium makes the bottle look antique when it dries. After this completely dries, decide how you want to embellish it. I embellished mine with a piece of burlap which was glued down with matte medium also. This also took a while to dry. I then hot glued my dried cedar and feathers. I took a watch face, wiring and beads and altered a watch face to my liking. I then hot glued that to the front. I filled in with cedar until I was HAPPY!!! I then took the top which I had earlier applied a rusting solution (purchased at any hobby store) to. This usually takes overnight. I then drilled two holes with my dremel close together. On the inside of the top, I cut a piece of paper to embellish the top. After running my wire through and connecting it to the jar I was able to embellish the inside of the top adding my E, which is the initial for Yvette. LOL To complete my piece I added the metal word, wiring and beads to the top of the jar! A very fun project. I want to do two more to make a set of three!!!
